The Full Sentebale April 2024 'Awkward' Stage Incident

A year later, the Charity Commission opens a case to investigate concerns about Sentebale

Everyone is so over the jam pictures, and crates of TW’s products being plastered on the social media accounts of D listers and various other black women that have sent the package of freebies. Meanwhile, in the real world, the cult members who did purchase the watered down jam (called spread) claim to have either missed out even with their advance notice, or have received emails saying the products are out of stock and a refund will be processed within 2-5 weeks! If true, why does it take that long to process a refund because in today’s technology this takes usually up to 3 working days.

The cult will have to wait and see if it is a ‘jam scam’, but even if it is, Netflix is the partner, and Snow Commerce Inc is the actual company who are responsible for selling the products. Then again, who is silly enough to pay $9 plus shipping for basically a label on a run of the mill jar of watered down jam?

The first reviews have come out from cult members and journalists and it’s basically watered down ‘jam’ called spread because in the US it has less sugar and less fruit than actual jam. You may wonder what is the point if it’s little more than a fruit syrup in a jar? Videos of people trying to eat the spread on toast are hilarious as it makes the toast soggy, and it dribbles and drips…

The Sentebale Scandal will not go away, and the mud slinging has begun with Harold basically calling Sophie Chandauka a liar in a statement he released on behalf of him and the former trustees. This was in response to the Charity Commission (CC), confirming that they had opened a compliance case as assess concerns about Sentebale, a move that Chandauka had initiated (at the end of February 2025) by reporting the charity to the Charity Commission, calling herself a whistleblower.

Choosing to be a whistleblower is not easy, as many will have noticed ‘incidents’ and let them pass as one off errors, but when it becomes the norm, then action has to be taken. Make no bones about it, Chandauka knew that it might mean the end of the charity or the salvation of it, and the latter is what she is fighting for.

First of all, a patron has no formal or legal obligations, duties, or responsibilities to a charity. Therefore, if the CC determine there was misconduct, then it doesn’t affect Harold or Prince Seeiso. Their appearances at events are a courtesy and if they attend any meetings, that too is technically considered the same, more to show an interest, but they should not have any voting rights. From what we have heard from Chandauka, things had been too lax when Harold attended meetings, and if Harold had instructed various members of the board to act on his behalf, then it is questionable as to whether that is ethical, or can be considered misconduct depending on what was said or done. I have no doubt many patrons have had a quiet word in the ear of a board member across the world, and it’s whether those actions are considered ethical and in the best interests of the charity.

The fear for many is that the CC may not be impartial given that Harold is the son of the King, but theoretically it should not matter. In fact, it is more important that the CC ensures patrons do not interfere with the running of a charity by way of undue influence because of a title or particular status.

According to Chandauka, relations became tense when Harold wanted to use the Sentebale event as footage for his Netflix flop, called Polo. No one was remotely interested in it, but he had to create some content to avoid having to repay the advance fee. As I have said before, TW had no official role at the event—she was in fact the plus one guest of the patron, who just happened to be part of the polo team. She was a guest, and Sophie Chandauka was the legal, official, and formal representative of Sentebale that day.

Video footage doesn’t lie, and a clearer picture can be seen here where the players all move to one side to allow the Sentebale representatives to come on the stage to have photos taken. They all knew their positions, except for TW who just did what she wanted despite being the guest.

  • Harold moves to his right to create a gap for Sophie to stand next to him.

  • The Claw moves in and grabs Harold and then moves in to close the said gap.

  • The player to the right of Harold also moves to allow Sophie space if she wished to stand next to Harold, but TW is busying pointing and ordering Sophie to stand next to her, and saying a rhetorical ‘Do you want to stand here?’. If it had been genuine, it would have been along the lines of, ‘Do you want to stand here, or there?’

  • Harold is like a sweaty pup, caught in the jaws of an alligator (it is alligator land) and once The Claw had pounced, he is subdued and is resigned to his fate—to do as he is told.

  • This forced Sophie to have to duck under the trophy as no one would let go or concede their position on the stage.

  • If anything, it looked as if TW was jealous of Chandauka and refused to let the chair of Sentebale stand next to the patron of Sentebale.

  • All the players behaved appropriately and stood aside to make way for the ladies when appropriate. Even Nacho and the other player stood to one side, then took up their positions for the photos. The only person who did not act appropriately was TW who should have stood to one side. She was the guest and failed to act with any grace.

  • Sophie Chandauka was the official representative of Sentebale on the stage, and as TW was Harold’s guest, he should have apologised to Chandauka and made sure TW behaved appropriately.

  • The negative response from the world was wholly due to TW’s disgraceful and rude behaviour, yet Harold expected Chandauka to ‘take the fall’ and blame by defending TW’s behaviour (allegedly saying in a terse message to sort it out and what are you going to do about it). Chandauka quite rightly refused, citing that Sentebale should not be an extension of the Harkle PR. By drawing more attention to it, TW would have been criticised further, and the repuation of Sentebale would have dipped further.

Sentebale posted their response to the Charity Commission announcement, and Chandauka approached the CC knowing that every single document and from Sentebale and communications concerning the charity would be handed over. Therefore, from what we can see, Chandauka has been transparent and has admitted that this should have been dealt with in the proper manner, but it was Harold who went public, forcing her to do the same.

What is the future for Sentebale? Chandauka is getting attacked by the cult, and because they can’t use the race card, they are claiming she is jealous of TW. What is her aim? For Sentebale to continue operating but within the legal guidelines laid out for charities. She knows she will not be the chair forever due to term limits, so what else does she have to gain except to help the charity she has supported for more than 15 years to survive.

Harold wants Sentebale back and to be unofficially to be control so that he has no legal responsibilities, and for Chandauka to be gone.

We are left with the scenario of who to believe, and who has been frugal with the truth?

What does Harold want? He wants Sentebale back and for him to control it unofficially (with Chandauka removed), and to use it when he needs to in order to enhance his public profile which has been dire of late. I find it rather disloyal of him to turn on Chandauka, whom he has known since at least 2008, and to basically call her a liar.

This is Harold’s statement:

The difference between the two is that Chandauka is a lawyer, she is well versed in what is legal and permissible and what is not. She had also been an official member of the board in the past and knows the legal and formal duties and responsibilities of such a role, and no issues during her tenure in 2008-20015 have been made public. If that had been issues, it is unlikely that they would have voted her in as the chair of Sentebale.

Harold on the other hand may have experience at brainstorming ideas, but does he have any knowledge of how a charity or company is run behind the scenes and the issues of governance? He can’t be let off for ignorance because he is a 40 year old man, but what about the former board members? Were they qualified and did they actually understand the legal responsibilities of their roles?

What will the CC uncover, and will they report all their findings? The problem for Harold is that he has history and form for sending aggressive and unpleasant messages to people (as witnessed by emails delivered by Jason Knauf), appearing to behave like a bully, and there is video footage of him being disrespectful towards members of the RF, and others. This makes Chandauka’s account more credible, and Harold’s account less credible as all he can say is that ‘she lied’ (about the harassment, bullying, and misconduct).

Can Sentebale continue without the founders being part of the charity? Of course it is possible, as people die and charities continue, but has this scandal tarnished the charity? By the sounds of things, people supported the charity because Harold was a working member of the RF, but once he stopped and the true behaviour and personalities of the Haarkles came to light (via video footage of their own), people who supported them because they like the royal connection became uncomfortable. The Clooney duo haven’t been seen supporting the Harkles, nor have the Beckhams, so it’s no surprise some private donors have also distanced themselves.

Ultimately, the CC needs to look at directors with a conflict of interest in this case too, where at least one former director and trustee is a close and personal friend of Harold’s. The same is with the Invictus Games where JJ Chalmers (another good pal) was recently made a director and trustee of the Invictus Games Foundation. These personal relationships do create a conflict of interest when issues such as an abuse of power crop up.

Meanwhile, TW is so eager for content that she has to draft in desperate Doria, who can be seen looking rough and bored while waiting for TW to give her the cue to taste some kind of pudding.

TW is keen to point out she is using her kitchen, yet, it is old and dated (but functional) suggesting that the house is rented and that’s why the kitchen can’t be ripped out and remodelled. Compare this to Gwyneth Paltrow's airy and modern kitchen, and you can see why TW had to rent someone else’s home to film in.

The cult might be disappointed with the ‘As ever’ products, but they are still as nutty as ever, where they are calling TW, ‘Meghan Sussex of the House of Windsor’ in broken pidgin English in their video montages. I imagine the late Queen is rolling over and frowning in her grave, but what will her son do? The House of Windsor stems from her, and her alone and the cult are using this in TW’s title now. I know C3 is ill, but more damage is being done to the House of Windsor and perhaps they don’t think it’s serious, but it is when you have videos plastered on social media linking TW to the House of Windsor.

Next week, Harold’s case against the government is back in court (appeal), and the tabloid magazines really need to stop pushing a reconciliation with his family, as even Eugenie seems to have distanced herself from the duo. Let’s face it, if you’ve lost Eugenie, then there’s Bob Hope any other members of the family will want to speak to you when you are taking the government to court over what protection you think you are entitled to.
