Where does one begin with this literal ‘car crash’ of events that began with Harold, the Overseas Son arriving with his ‘family (The Wife, and her mother) to attend the Ms. Foundation Women of Vision Awards at the Ziegfeld Ballroom, on 54th St in NYC on 16 May 2023?
The trio entered through the local Hertz rental offices—that was their red carpet entrance as they smiled for the photographers, hecklers (‘Meghan, how does if feel to be part of 2 broken families?’) and a few fans. Why was Doria even there except for TW to push around and to use as a cheap bodyguard? TOS looked as if he was dressed for an interview, and in some ways he was as he is pimping himself out to any brand or media outlet that is willing to pay to hear about his victim story and his sad and tragic life of privilege being brought up in the British Royal Family. All the tiny violins have been played and no one wants to listen to his snivelling drivel, yet he smirked in the photos taking advantage of some free PR.
TW shows us one thing—all that is gold doesn’t always glitter. Was the dress made from the remnants of a cheap gold bed quilt, or was she trying to replicate an outfit from the Little Mermaid? Was she trying to send a message that she does all her deals on a golden bed quilt? At least the ‘messy bun’ has gone, and has been replaced by a helmet of new hair that didn’t even move. How can one not laugh as she swayed her way past the Hertz rental desks as her grand entrance?
Besides giving Doria a free trip to NYC, TW enlisted the aid of paid help and and friends to clap in the audience, because she needed someone to mask any potential jeers. Markus Anderson showed up, as well as Jill Smoller, and Genevieve Hillis, plus the current Archewell lapdogs. They were all seen at the end of the night waiting for their car or perhaps they had to hail a cab as the cars were too busy creating a ‘car chase’ in Manhattan? Apparently, TOS and his family didn’t stay in a hotel (didn’t the Ms. Foundation pay or didn’t Anderson comp a Soho House room?) and they stayed with a friend in the Upper East Side. I dread to think where the Archewell staffers and security ended up, and those expenses will be buried somewhere no doubt.
The award was presented by Gloria Steinem, with the Sussex title emblazened across the stage. Quite frankly, it was a meaningless award that no one had heard about, no one cares about, and was probably paid for with a donation filtered through various channels in the Archewell network of companies. How can one take a feminist award seriously when TW parades herself using the title from her current husband—that’s hardly typical of traditional feminist views. Add to that, a title that has been brutally monetised, and abused and that is now tarnished as cheap and tawdry, yet TW will take what she can and gave her usual word salad acceptance speech.
There were usual buzz words to appeal to the feminist audience, and she claimed that Ms magazine was on the table at home as they had a subscription. She then claimed that the magazine was responsible for encouraging her to be a feminist, and an activist. At least she is admitting she is an activist, at which point why did the late Queen or C3 think it was wise to permit a self-confessed activist to carry out royal duties as part of the family? We could all see the ‘car crash’ ahead and it happened even before the wedding.
The trio left around 10pm, with a bodyguard holding Doria’s hand, and TOS and TW grinning at the cameras and crowds, with TW dragging her heels to smile and wave. There was a lone fan shouting ‘We love you Meghan’, that was probably paid for, but since Sunshine Sachs was sacked, it seems funds for paid for fans are low. The trio drove off in the SUV and we all thought that was the end of it thank goodness, but little did we know that an apparent ‘staged’ stunt had been planned.
The next day the Sussex PR released a statement (more than 7 hours later) that the trio had been involved in a ‘near catastrophic car chase’ in Manhattan as they were followed by four paparazzi (three cars and one bike) versus their four SUVs. Many have suggested that these were ‘paid for’ by TW for the purposes of staging an incident to try and persuade the UK courts that they need round the clock protection. NYC sees many celebrities chased by paparazzi, and most have more than four on their tail, yet they all survived!
Back in the UK, Harold was pursuing another legal challenge against the Home Office (the government and the Crown), crying out that he didn’t believe that RAVEC should have made the decision about his security detail once he was no longer a working member of the RF. The argument is that he should be permitted to pay, comparing himself to large scale events attended by the public where the organisers can apply for additional police resources that would be billed.
As the initial challenge began with Harold taking photos of the paparazzi taking photos of him leaving to attend the WellChild awards in June 2021, perhaps as advised by his legal team, he was snapping the paps again in NYC. Therefore, it appears to be coincidental when another judicial review is being applied for, where Harold appeared to seek a fresh batch of ‘evidence’ that had to be acquired to try and support his claim.
Images emerged of the trio in a yellow cab about 5 hours after the event—what was that all about as they got into a black SUV and as Manhattan is not exactly big, it would have taken less than half an hour to get to their lodgings. Several versions of what transpired that night circulated on 17 May, and the media unwisely jumped on the sensationalism without verifying the facts. By now, everyone should know a Sussex PR issued statement is highly exaggerated with embellished truths, speculative and subjective views, and is so vague that it would have zero worth or impact in a court of law.
The images showed Doria looking down as if she was tired of the charade and being pushed around by her daughter, TW sat there with a grin, and Harold did his usual scowl and pulled out his phone to film the paps.
It seems that the duo have pulled the joker out of the victim card pack, and involved the NYC police, and not one precinct but at least two, with car swapping as a decoy, and claims of car chases for two hours in midtown. This forced the Mayor of New York (Eric Adams), the NYPD, the taxi driver (Sukhcharn Singh), and also Backgrid to make their own statements on the alleged incident that appeared to be highly exaggerated for PR. The statements from all other parties do not support the claims of the Sussex PR statement, and that includes people who are neutral who were present at the time.
Many believe that the duo were trying to recreate a scene to mirror the night that Diana died in a car crash in Paris, especially as non of the trio appeared to be wearing seatbelts. This is a legal requirement in New York, and they could have been pulled over and been fined. Diana died because of a drunk driver and she didn’t wear a seatbelt. Also, the yellow cab enabled TOS to take photos of the paps, which he seemed to have been told to take on the orders of the puppet master.
The alleged ‘car chase’ saga has so many contradictory twists and turns, and as we all know, there are cameras everywhere in NYC, and that traffic is heavy at all times and no one can go more than 30 miles per hour without hitting a traffic light after a minute, especially midtown. The Sussexes have been mocked and laughed at by New Yorkers, retired cops, cab drivers, and basically any sane person who has spent more than 24 hours in NYC after making a claim there was a car chase.
Did they think they could create the illusion of a film set and then play it out and expect everyone else to play along? No one reported the incident as it happened in real time, no one said they had been in danger or been close to a collision either.
The plot thickens as the Sussexes ‘demanded’ that Backgrid handover all the images taken that night to them which they have refused as they have no legal obligation to do so. Others suggest that the Sussexes had hired some of the paparazzi to chase them, which seems highly probable given than only four appeared to bother spend two hours ‘chasing’ them as many got the departure photo and had gone off to sell it already. The Sussex PR team cannot control NYPD, or the office of the Mayor of New York, and throwing around a tarnished title is meaningless. The saga is not over as camera footage is being compiled and assessed to verify or dispute the claims that the Sussex PR has made. The message is clear—don’t mess with New Yorkers and try and throw the blame on the NYPD for failing to act.
