S P A R E ~ A Book of Rantings And Inconsistent Memories
Stacks of books, and few queue for the launch of the memoir
I read the free preview on Kindle this morning, but it was so monotonous and poorly written I nearly fell asleep. I thought I had done well, but I barely made it to the end of the prologue, where only the pangs of hunger kept me awake. The previously sugary royal reporters have finally woken up, and reviews are not good. The usually sugary BBC reporter (Coughlan) saw it as a long drunken text, and even the annoying Katie Nicholls who previously supported the Sussexes has opted to keep her career and to back the Royal Family. Shippy looked confused and uncomfortable when asked on television about the book, but then again some might say he is just a confused man who was once a respected journalist and who lost the plot.
At midnight, there were more photographers than customers waiting to buy the book (Waterstones in Piccadilly is a flagship store and one of the largest bookstores in the country). Some stores had a handful of people, and others had none as images of empty shops were posted online. The Sussex supporters claim that most people buy online and don’t need to go into a store, while the stores have a bit of fun with the displays (stocked through pre-orders) with one promoting ‘How to Kill Your Family’ alongside S P A R E.
Meanwhile, TOS is making the most of his celebrity status by waving to the crowds after an appearance on The Late Show that was filmed on Monday in New York. Didn’t he want to stay in Montecito to save the Little Mermaid from the floods that have led to evacuations in the safe area he now calls home?
Those who have ploughed through the book (well done for not falling asleep) have noticed a number of inconsistencies, and the few pages I read appear to be inconsistent in style too, with one minute TOS remembering things clearly, then he doesn’t. To date, he appears to have made an error as to where he was when the Queen Mother died, claiming he was at Eton when an aide rang and told him the news, where the Royal Rota saw him and took photos of him with C3 and William on a skiing holiday the day she died.
There are more details of the alleged births of the invisible children, and it reads as if it’s a scene from ‘Absolutely Fabulous’ when Patsy and Eddie are high on drugs and drunk, with chanting and hymns, candles, and the like. People who never questioned the odd pregnancy and announcement of the child known as Archie are now scratching their heads, with so much detail being given that it sounds first of all unsafe, and then highly unlikely when TOS states they were back at home two hours after the birth. That’s after the cord being tangled after an induced delivery, placenta being delivered, stitched up, baby checked, the drive back to Windsor, which takes an hour, plus the after effects of an epidural! In a movie script I guess that’s possible, but in real life would it be considered safe and professional?
We also have the alleged text exchange between TW and Kate over the bridesmaid dress. Whether it is authentic or not, who knows but TW doesn’t come off looking good sounding hostile and disorganised, and yes, they are breaching Kate’s privacy if the texts are genuine. So, as expected, TOS has ‘attacked’ his sister-in-law, and his stepmother, by using any petty method possible. What is more unbelievable is that TOS thinks a reconciliation is possible, and that his family will apologise to him after breaching their privacy.
The tailor, Ajay Mirpuri has confirmed that none of the bridesmaids’ dresses fitted that Givenchy had made. They looked shoddy to be frank, and it’s not exactly a good look for the French fashion house. There had been no fittings and the dresses had been made from measurements only, and the team had four days to make them fit. It pretty much sums up the organisation of the wedding that TW claimed she didn’t want, but did so she could invite people she wanted to know to the ‘party’.
Surely C3 and William have a right to their privacy and not to have their private conversations sold in a book, and while I am no fan of C3, he does have a right to do what he likes behind closed doors? How undignified of his son to mock him doing exercises in his own private time. Then to accuse Camilla of plotting a campaign to marry C3, and being angry because he expected his father never to remarry, but ‘allowed’ him to have Camilla as a companion as he needed a better one than his childhood teddy! One can see the arrogance in the words chosen, and from what I have read, it is difficult to read— as if it was written by someone who was half sober, and then someone else has come along to pad out the text and to tidy it up. It all looks and sounds disjointed, but TOS claims he is happy and at peace. That’s a rather odd thing to say when you have breached the privacy of most of your family, and then moaned and whinged about things, and he still hasn’t told any of us why he thought he was in danger and had no choice but to flee the UK. Looks like he might have to abandon the Montecito ship with the floods and mud slides, as it’s not as safe there as he thought!
Meanwhile, TOS sells an exclusive to People magazine, you know the ones who ran an article that defamed Thomas Markle with anonymous sources, aimed at pushing hi to publish the crafted and drafted letter that was intended to be in the public domain! With a highly retouched photo, and a new crop of hair, he sells his story and monetises what is left of the title he still has.
