Many didn’t believe that England would get this far, but they are in the Euro 2020 final, and The Queen has sent a message of good luck for tomorrow (11 July 2021). William will be there to cheer on the team, and the country (and perhaps Scotland and Wales may support us too?) will be behind Gareth Southgate and his team at Wembley.
Nothing else really matters, and many companies have given their staff a day off on Monday, or half a day as a bonus – this really is a national event, and one that has given us back some pride that had been lost during the Sussex saga. Regardless of the outcome, it has lifted the spirits of the country and has given us some hope, and something to look forward to.
While I don’t wish to dampen the mood as the build up to the game is all part of the fun, I note with some irony the last sentence of the letter (IMHO):
“…hope that history will record not only your success but also the spirit, commitment and pride with which you have conducted yourselves.”
Can history in all honesty say that BP and the RF have conducted themselves in an appropriate manner with commitment in regards to the Sussex saga?
The history books are not recording the actions of BP as anything of the sort – there is no spirit, and there is a lack of commitment to the People. While it is clear that The Queen wishes to appear to relate to the People and to unite them, her failure to act in removing the ducal title and HRH style from the Sussexes is silently destroying what goodwill is left. Damage and harm continues, but there seems to be an attitude that if it doesn’t affect them, then it’s okay. It is not, and ignorance is no excuse when it is being documented in the public domain. The People are not proud of how BP has acted – in fact, they are ashamed and feel humiliated.
Even if the Sussex PR attempt some kind of news right now, it will be ignored in the UK and in fact many of their stories hold no interest and the reporters aren’t bothering to report on them. Most are giddy with joy at travelling with members of the RF and to cover events, such as Buckingham Palace opening up their gardens to the public, and visiting the set of Coronation Street.
There was a vague attempt by a controversial charity (Population Matters) to jump on the sinking Sussex ship to gain some publicity, where they (ahem) gave the duo a special award (and £500) for declaring they were doing their part to ‘save the environment’ by only having two children and were (don’t laugh or choke on your dinner) role models for the world. One commenter quipped, that the charity must know something we all don’t if they have proof that children had been born! This was for the UN World Population Day on 11 July, the day of the Euro 2020 final, so basically very few people will be interested in this news, so it looks like that was a waste of a £500 donation for publicity.
While the charity has some noteworthy patrons (David Attenborough and Jane Goodall), their changing manifesto is of concern as it targets 18-24 year olds, with the message that having a small family means a happier family. Since when was happiness guaranteed because you had a small family? Their whole website is full of imbecilic and dictatorial rhetoric, and what is worth noting is that the charity opposed the settlement of refugees a few years ago, saying the UK was full. How credible is a survey that asks 18-24 year olds how many children they plan to have? Most are busy partying, finding relationships, planning a gap year, or are deciding where to study, and is rather ludicrous (they say 3 out of 10 will seek to have a small family), especially as teenagers are likely to change their minds in later life.
I see that the charity has tried to ‘justify’ their actions, but they flip and flop and say one thing then backtrack on it. It makes for painful reading, for if you have to explain why you did something then it’s obvious that no one understood it. They say that the duo are the most famous couple in the world (unsure how they quantify that either), but maybe they spelt infamous incorrectly?
The obvious reason was to gain publicity for themselves, and that was it.
Somehow, I doubt that this publicity stunt will have helped either side, and hope that some of the patrons rethink their involvement in this rather narrow minded cause. In England, the only news people are interested in is the final score on Sunday night at Wembley.

It is astounding that OH keeps the foot on the accelerator. Summarising events and keeping respectful commentary alive on this page must surely filter through to the RF via aides. I remain optimistic they will act when they deem time is right, limiting damage to the Crown. RF certainly is shining all over the place at the moment. The Dumbartons seem to be doing a pretty good job of self destructing right now, celebrity friends and big ticket income streams have gone off the radar. Waxman and the sugars have had some minor wins in closing down some social media commentary but they will not win that war. I am looking forward to the outcome of the bullying investigating. The timing of the report in 2022 before the RF celebrations would be welcolme.
As a Scot, Be assured our local pub punters will be supporting England! It is wrong for people to speculate that all Scots hate English. Go team go!!! We have union flag flying and bunting. :)

It is my birthday tomorrow - if they win it will be the best birthday present EVER! I watched the 1966 World Cup Final this evening on Channel 4 - they have turned it into colour - fantastic.
This latest award is yet another joke - TH won’t like being one of 10 recipients. It was great watching the Wembly final and the presentation by the DOC looking stunning in green! Very classy dress unlike the caped crusader’s at her last official performance with the RF.
My husband and I as well as many, many other families have only 2-children (some even 1 for that matter)...where is our $$. Why aren't we all getting awards!?!?
Furthermore It must be exhausting in H and Ms marriage. All that victim play acting, whining and receiving irrelevant awards is sooo tiring isn’t it 😛🤓 personally i think HMTQ is playing a long game here… The marriage at the rate it’s going may not to last anyway.. I remember March 31 was the deadline for the duo. The passing of P.P. delayed it a bit , but the Queen has taken too long to short this out. Everyday is another p.r. joke from the duo. Its time to delete H and M !!!!!!!!!! Go England!!!!!!!
So pleased for England and the upcoming Championship game. Although I live in Florida, my late husband was Canadian, so I will be cheering them on from across the pond! Unbelievable about that new group spouting such rhetoric about praising that duo for 'making the decision to only have two children." Quite frankly, it is not their business to praise of even ask anyone how many children they plan to have. I am actually rather disappointed to find out David Attenborough and Jane Goodall are patrons of such a (my opinion only) disreputable charity, made even more apparent by their attaching themselves to the duo. As for the RF, I truly think they just do not know how to handle such a disruptive force that is That Woman, so all this has been a learning curve for them. As a result, they have been caught unawares and are now trying to figure out the way forward. I've read they they are receiving counseling and help in trying to deal with someone with such behaviours, and it does seem to be having some positive effect as certainly there has been a decrease in appearances and rhetoric being spouted off by the couple lately. Hopefully, there is now guidance to help the HMTQ and members of the RF to permanently remove them from any ties to the RF and out of the public eye. Thank you, Harry Markle, once again for the uplifting (England's upcoming game and great championship team playoffs to date), and the on-going craziness (Population Matters). You are truly a light in the ongoing saga!

Congrats to the UK on this nail biter. I'm not a big football fan (I prefer rugby), but it's good to see everybody come together after this past year and a half for something so glorious. And as far as the Dreadful Duo are concerned, there's something called the Voluntary Extinction Movement. They should join and show how serious they REALLY are.
