South Park And Spitting Image Mockery

Both the UK and the US use satire to convey the thoughts of the masses

Last week, Spitting Image went on stage with a live show called, ‘Idiots Assemble: Spitting Image Saves The World,’ and featured the Harold and his seal singing wife. Now it was the turn of the creators in the US to convey the thoughts of the masses, and South Park released an episode entitled, ‘The Worldwide Privacy Tour’.

I guess the sane people in the world needed cheering up after seeing the documents from Samantha Markle’s defamation case against her sister. To say it was a poor show is an understatement, with some of the claims she has made looking as if it was petty sibling rivalry. The motion to dismiss the case was heard on 15 February 2023, and while Samantha had just cause to pursue a case, either she didn’t get good advice on the best way to present the case, or she chose to dismiss the advice given.

The judge will deliver her written judgment at a later date, but on paper it looks as if the seal singer has the edge, even though a late correction was added admitting that she ‘unintentionally’ claimed that Samantha lost custody of all her children. This seems to have been a definitive comment that was defamatory, aimed at making her sister look like a bad mother. There was nothing unintentional about the statement, and was used as ammunition to discredit her sister. However, I don’t think Defendant Markle should hold out for any reimbursement of legal fees.

The South Park episode was cleverly crafted weaving in the key elements that have made the Harkles unpopular, and even despised around the world. They managed to incorporate many of the things we have laughed at (the tantrums and demands for privacy whilst courting as much PR as possible), and behaviours that have irritated the public and left the masses disgusted at the sound of their names.

  • The chant of the duo ‘We want privacy’ and ‘Stop looking at us’ around the world, while everyone tries to ignore them and are sick of hearing about them.

  • The book is called ‘Waagh’ as it is a childish rant.

  • The story revolves around the faux nature of creating a brand with various traits of the TW character listed as ‘victim’, ‘First Lady botherer’, and ‘lawyer pretending’, Then the duo seek help to change their brand because their plan to take over the world isn’t working!!!

  • The prince character prances around on a polo pony on the front lawn to show off.

  • The prince character whips out his blue (frostbitten) todger and exposes himself as a threat!

  • The show incorporated all the faux paid for magazine covers where the duo have posed for profit.

  • There is a faux accusation of racism because the TW character is ignored.

  • The prince character throws tantrums and acts like a spoilt brat.

The moral of the tale is to try and not be a superficial person, or to create a false persona to gain attention/friendships and to make money. What matters is who you are on the inside (and there doesn’t seem to be much inside of the TW character), and that people can see through disingenuous people.

The Queen’s Commonwealth Trust has recently updated their website and there appears to be no mention of the ‘work’ the duo carried out in the brief time they were associated with the entity. The video messages they made are still on the YouTube channel and BetterUp is named as a supporter, but there are poor reviews of the company, and there are whispers that people have been fired, perhaps to reduce the overheads

As an entity that created to recognise the work of the late Queen, it would be improper to include people who have made disparaging comments about her, and her family, and who have criticised the Commonwealth, failing to recognise the work that has been done to unite the countries. If the duo are still trying to get a foot in the Commonwealth door (as they have always wanted), then from the QCT team, they got a mention and acknowledgement that they were once involved, and while the QCT says they stepped down, we all know they had no choice and the roles were removed in 2021 for good, even though they should have been removed in April 2020 when they were no longer officially working members of the Royal Family.

While people are still debating as to whether Harold and TW should attend the Coronation or even be invited, those who don’t understand the monarchy (mainly those outside of the UK) must understand that this is a state occasion, that the Sovereign holds roles such as the head of the Church of England are in name only, where the Sovereign acts on the advice of the Prime Minister, and it’s not as if he can decide to reform the church.

His Majesty the King is the Supreme Governor of the Church of England. The King appoints archbishops, bishops and deans of cathedrals on the advice of the Prime Minister.

Therefore, it is government decision where the Sovereign may make suggestions. The question is, can you invite someone who is challenging the Sovereign and the government in a court of law because they want publicly funded protection, and disagreed with the governance who offered alternative arrangements that they didn't feel suited his position? Can you invite someone that many deem has carried out borderline acts of treason to a Coronation? One can carry out such acts without the government pressing charges, and in the case of Edward VIII, it was a difficult situation as many considered some of his acts to be along the lines of treason, but how can you press charges against a former Sovereign because the act of treason is against a Sovereign and the Crown.

Those are the real questions to ask, and whether it is appropriate to permit a person who has attacked and betrayed the monarchy to a Coronation—one that has chosen to exile themselves, and whose allegiance to the Crown is doubtful from the behaviours exhibited.
